Higher Education Institute SSML Carlo Bo

The creation of the new series stems from the need to provide material for the course of Applied Linguistics. As the name of the series highlights, the primary objective is to operate on two levels, both theoretical and practical also including tools for the professional field.
TPTI invites you to collaborate and share your experiences.
The first volume (Prospettive e obiettivi funzionali nell’insegnamento delle tecniche di traduzione inglese>italiano) is organized in four sections. In the first section, theoretical aspects related to translation teaching from a functionalist perspective have been analyzed. The role of pedagogical translation in learning a language has also been considered. The author proposes a teaching model to conciliate practice with theory. In the second section, the guidelines and programs of the course in Applied Linguistics at the Higher Education Institute SSML Carlo Bo in Rome have been included. In the appendix, the documents regarding the transformation of the original High Professional Training School for Interpreters and Translators into a first level university course. The third section comprises practical annotations and suggestions based on collected material and experience in didactic and professional areas: false friends, the most recurring mistakes (lexical and morpho-syntactic) in translation training classes, strategies to adopt in case of untranslatability, disambiguation, how to organize a glossary.

The fourth session brings together practical exercises enabling self-study on the basis of key points and functions in translation arising during the translation process. Each text includes links and resource material to in-depth study of the subject matter. The book also contains an essential glossary of economic terms.
